Psychotherapy & Intercultural Coaching

I propose individual psychotherapy for adults and adolescents using CBT and/or EMDR for : stress management, professional burn-out, anxiety disorders, panic attacks, phobia, depression, trauma and PTSD, cultural adaptation issues (culture-shock for expatriates), adjustment/ phase of life problems, relationship difficulties, loneliness/ isolation, bereavement, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), anger management, lack of assertiveness, improvement of communication skills, self-esteem and self-confidence issues, as well as certain behavioural addictions.

Although clients initially consult a psychologist-psychotherapist in order to overcome, resolve or manage emotional and behavioural problems, psychotherapy often goes beyond problem resolution, and can also become a journey toward personal discovery, development and growth. Over the years I have accompanied numerous clients from all horizons and cultures on this path, and have found this most rewarding. Positive psychology, which focuses on fostering well-being by usng one’s strengths and virtues, can be an aid in revealing and developing talents and ressources in order to lead a more fulfilling and meaningful existence. Coaching tools, geared toward a specific objective, can also be useful in this regard.

Intercultural Coaching

Although specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of psychopathology (anxiety and mood disorders), many of my clients also consult for « life problems Â» such as adjustment to a new environment (country, region or city) and relationship issues (communication with partner, parents, children ; loneliness/isolation/ difficulty finding a life partner).

As an expat, having grown up trilingual (English, Spanish and French) and (at least) tricultural, since early childhood, and maintaining strong ties to several countries on three continents (North and South America, and Europe), as well as being passionate about travelling and discovering novel ways of interacting in the world, I consider myself a true World Citizen with a global mind and outlook on human nature. It is this part of my identity that lands me in a priveleged position to work with expats, third culture kids and global travellers experiencing culture shock, as well those experiencing reverse culture shock, homesickness, difficulty with intercultural relationships and other adjustment challenges. As with psychotherapy, I will accompany clients to overcome their difficulties, adapt to their new environnement, while developing new skills and a « nomadic mindset Â». The experiences of expatriation and multiculturalism are gifts, although they may more often than not, seem like blessings in disguise. Character development, resilience, cognitive flexibility, openness and curiosity are among the gifts of such life changing experiences, and intercultural coaching can unveil these precious contributions to one’s development.
